Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Orientation

$0.00

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an eight-week mindfulness training program that was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn Ph.D. in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Initially designed to help chronically ill people who were not responding well to traditional treatments, it is now used for a wide variety of reasons by diverse groups of people worldwide.‍ ‍

The eight‑week program supports mind‑body wellbeing through meditation practices, gentle movement and stretching, mindful eating, and communication exercises. Research shows that MBSR can help people manage stress, anxiety, chronic pain, and depression, while also supporting physical health and relationships.

The course will be offered on Wednesdays, February 10 through March 24 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., and includes an all-day retreat on Sunday, March 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Facilitated by Lucy Sternburgh, Ph.D., LPC, Certificate in Teaching MBSR from UMass
